30 Reasons Why I Don’t Celebrate International Women’s Day

I don’t think International Women’s Day is a day for celebration. It’s an opportunity to re-commit to equality, equity, inclusion, accessibility, and intersectionality.

Listen, I get it.
We’ve come a long way since the first official #IWD in 1975! And some might see this progress as an opportunity to celebrate, and that’s valid!

After all, I often talk about the importance of “progress over perfection,” but there’s still so much more work to be done!

And I simply can’t celebrate when so many of us are still oppressed.

This year, I’d like to take a moment to acknowledge some of the issues women around the Globe face daily.

This non-comprehensive list wasn’t easy to put together — after all, it is quite a painful and soul-crushing list — and I debated with myself before I finally decided to post it.

But you know what?
It’s crucial to see what’s going on, so we can all remember why we fight the good fight. And why your voice, power, privilege, and action are needed.
