Give Us Our Roses While We’re Still Here
B. Parker, a Black Transgender artist, popularized these words in the hopes that we all honor, celebrate, support, and elevate trans people in life. Not in moments of loss, tragedy, grief, and mourning.
With the ever-increasing discrimination and violence around the globe, and the passage of anti-trans legislation in the USA I want us all to honor #TransDayOfVisibility by celebrating trans lives.
By elevating their voices, re-sharing their work, celebrating their achievements, and supporting their projects. Before we kick off, please be mindful and intentional about your celebrations. Visibility is still *very risky* for many trans people, especially for trans people of color and those living in more conservative countries.
So, when supporting the amazing trans people in your life, be mindful of your language, intentions, and actions. I’ve included below a list of peeps I admire. If you’re not familiar with them, please, go take a look at their work and cheer them on!
- ALOK — an internationally acclaimed writer, performer, and public speaker.
- Miss Major Griffin-Gracy — Stonewall veteran and community leader for the rights of transgender people of color.
- Alex Schmider — Schmider consults with the media and entertainment industry to be more inclusive…
