“The non-negotiable list: 20 red flags for interviews”

… that’s the title of a free guide currently being distributed by a very large (and global!) HR resources research library.

Unfortunately, HR and Recruitment are not inclusive and equitable yet. And nothing will change on the diversity front unless we address these issues first and along the way.

The document makes me furious. The tips and guidelines are not only outdated, but they’re also biased and discriminatory too. They only perpetuate harmful stereotypes and archaic professionalism ideals.

Here’s a link to the document, in case you want to take a look yourself, but *some* of the things that have me fuming are:

The overall language used is anything but inclusive.

Some major red flags are “warning signs,” “fit,” and “he or she.”

The author also released an updated version where he excuses some of his tips mentioning that “exceptions should be made for those who have Asperger’s.”*

*If you read this and don’t know what’s problematic or harmful about “Asperger’s,” I got you! First, we need to keep in mind that it’s just an outdated diagnosis. Second…
