Job interviews are nerve-wracking. We are doing our best to shine and show the interviewer who we are, both personally and professionally… but we also want to learn more about the opportunity so we can make an informed decision. After all, changing jobs — or getting our first employment opportunity — is a big deal. For many, this decision can be life-changing.

I know this is easier said than done. We don’t want to ask questions that the interviewer won’t like! Because, let’s be honest, the hiring process continues to be extremely inequitable and inclusive, and in most cases, interviewers will base their decisions on their own assumptions and biases.

But that shouldn’t stop you from learning as much as you can about your potential new role!

You want to make sure that this opportunity is right for you. You want to know whether you’ll be safe, both physically and psychologically, and that your career and professional growth will be taken seriously. And, of course, you also need to know if the opportunity pays as much as you need.
